Daily Agenda Summary

Students will go begin the unit for the novella, Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption. This period will be spent introducing format, assignments, and expectations.


  • Essential Question for this unit: How do the people around us influence our identities?

Work Period:

  1. Show students the reference files and assignments for Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption

    • "Shawshank Text Sections and Audiobook Timestamps" filed under Texts, Tools, and Resources section of Google Classroom - This file provides students with a list of sections, chapters and pages numbers, along with a link to the audiobook for students in need of support

    • Questions of the Day - These will be posted each day to be completed at the end of each section of reading. Answers should be complete and thoughtful, with proper grammar, and be 4-6 sentences in length. They will be labeled by date and section of reading.

      1. These are worth 10 points each.

      2. These DO NOT replace the daily attendance form.

    • "Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption Characterization Webs" - This assignment will be completed as we read each section, students will follow the directions on the first slide to gradually complete the three webs.

    • A digital copy of the text can also be found under Texts, Tools, and Resources

Closing:

  • Review content and the format the class will follow in terms of reading and annotating.

    • We will annotate the text for characterizing moments of Red, Andy, and Warden Norton. You may do this anyway that suits you, whether it's highlighting with different colors, using different symbols for different characters, putting notes in the margins, etc.
