Daily Agenda Summary

  • Students will close read and annotate the story for important information regarding Trevor Noah’s experience growing up and how the world saw him (looking specifically at characterization and conflict).They will use this to determine a central idea and analyze the author’s use of writing strategies to develop that idea.

Opening:

  • Listen to a read-through of "Colorblind," an excerpt from Trevor Noah's memoir, Born a Crime

Work Period:

  1. Independently, go back through and close read, annotating for characterization of Trevor and Teddy, conflict, and making notes in the margin

    • Students may identify other writing strategies present with annotations


Closing:

    1. Determine a central idea and make notes of a few other writing strategies (imagery, setting, first person point of view)

      • Brainstorm on own, then share aloud
