Reading & Literacy: This Grade 2 Into Reading Scope and Sequence outlines a weekly curriculum across structured modules—such as Citizenship, Science Connection, Solving Problems, Storytelling, and Leadership—that integrates reading, foundational literacy skills, vocabulary, writing, and grammar. Each week builds knowledge around an essential question through varied literary genres, targeted phonics and spelling instruction, fluency practice, generative vocabulary strategies, and step-by-step writing projects focused on narrative, descriptive, and persuasive styles.
Science: This second-grade science curriculum introduces young learners to measurement and scientific observation across four key areas. Students first practice safely using tools like rulers, scales, thermometers, and measuring cups to record physical properties. They then explore how energy forms—such as light, sound, heat, and electricity—transform to do work, culminating in hands-on design inventions. Next, students study biological life cycles by germinating seeds and raising classroom organisms. Finally, they examine environmental patterns, tracking shifting shadows, moon phases, and seasonal adaptations in plants and animals.
Second Step (Social-Emotional): Includes 4 units set up to build mental health, which include Setting Goals, Emotion Management, Empathy and Kindness, and Problem Solving.
Reading & Literacy: This Grade 3 literacy program, HMH Into Reading, delivers comprehensive language arts instruction across twelve thematic modules—ranging from character analysis and historical symbols to animal adaptations, energy, and global storytelling. Across these units, students systematically develop comprehension strategies using diverse fiction and nonfiction genres while practicing foundational phonics, spelling, and handwriting. Integrated writing units guide learners through key formats, including personal narratives, descriptive and expository essays, persuasive letters, and research reports, all supported by targeted grammar instruction, inquiry projects, and cross-curricular connections.
Science: In 3rd Grade Science21, students explore four key units: Forces and Interactions, Interdependent Relationships in Ecosystems, Weather and Climate, and Inheritance and Variation of Traits. Hands-on Engineering Design challenges are integrated into every unit, allowing students to solve real-world problems as they learn.
Social Studies: Students focus on units that study maps, cardinal directions, democracy, and globalization.
Second Step (Social-Emotional): Includes 4 units set up to build mental health, which include Setting Goals, Emotion Management, Empathy and Kindness, and Problem Solving.
