Baseball Team Earns Victory Over Pine Plains
HYDE PARK – Patrick Vivalda is going to be a pitcher to be reckoned with this year.
How do we know?
The oldest tipoff in the baseball book – winning without your best stuff.
Vivalda went five innings and struck out six, allowing three earned runs en route to the victory as the Franklin D. Roosevelt High School baseball team beat Pine Plains, 8-5, on Tuesday.
The Presidents are 2-1 overall.
“Coming off a tough (1-0) loss at New Paltz, the nice thing was we got to play the next day and get the bad taste out of our mouths,” Roosevelt coach Kory VanZandt said. “Patrick did not have his best stuff but he did what we needed him to do, and that was to grind it out.”
Conor Harris had a bases-clearing double to the left centerfield gap in the second inning to spark FDR. Ron Vespe had two hits, with an RBI and a run scored.
Jack Cimorelli came in and closed the door with two innings pitched and picked up the save with a pair of strikeouts.
Matt Funk doubled twice and had two RBI for the Bombers. Derek Koch had an RBI single.
Roosevelt is home to Saugerties on Thursday in an early-season divisional showdown.
