Painting is considered the second course of a four-year art sequence. Most of the students in painting have taken drawing and are considering going on to advanced art during their junior year and possibly AP drawing their senior year.
During this course we will continue to look at the basics of observational work that was introduced in drawing. The students will learn how to apply the elements of value, line and form in the media of acrylic paint, watercolor and mixed media. We will also cover the principles of color theory and how that relates to working with paint, creating harmonious color schemes and making effective design choices.
Over the course of the year we will go through a broad overview of art history. I hope to give the students some sense of the history of art (specifically painting) and how it has related to and influenced various historical periods. I would also like to have them begin to have a sense of where they are as young artists along this long continuum of humans making art.
