Kamigawa

THE LAND OF TEN THOUSAND LEGENDS

A land where the veil between the spirit world and the mortal one is gone, Kamigawa is home to countless Kami- small spirits and minor gods of the plane. Initially split in two halves: the Kakuriyo (also known as Reikai) for spirits and Utsushiyo for mortals, Kamigawa underwent a massive war thousands of years ago that caused the two halves of the plane to collide.  Taking advantage of a weakness in the veil between worlds, a human lord known as Konda used powerful magic to steal the child of the world-soul of Kamigawa, O-Kagachi, and take it for his own. The great O-Kagachi waged war on the mortal world, accompanied by millions of kami, to retrieve his lost daughter. The war was ended with the help of the kanji-ronin Toshi Umezawa, and Kamigawa fell under the rule of The Sisters of Flesh and Spirit in the wake of the death of both O-Kagachi and Emperor Konda. Kamigawa is home to a number of unique races, including the Orochi (snakefolk), Nezumi (ratfolk), Sortami (moonfolk), Kitsune (foxfolk), and Kappa (goblins). It also is the only plane currently known to have ninjas and samurai.

After 1,200 years, Kamigawa has emerged as a technological marvel in the multiverse. In recent memory, the mortal and spirit realms have begun a process where they are merging into one world. As Utsoshiyo transforms into a futuristic world of both spiritual and technological power, there are still growing pains. As the kami have felt threatened by the modernist expanse, much of the ancient ways and traditions have been sheltered in the massive Jukai forest. Even with this, there are ongoing talks between the spirits and the mortals to maintain peace and order under the Imperials. Some kami have even adopted to the technology of the city, forming mechs around their spiritual forms.
