Certain decks have certain themes, and will pair better with other decks, which decks work best have been listed below. These decks are on a higher skill level than most of the other decks in the club, with a lot of interacting mechanics. This can be overwhelming to learn and master but it is a whole lot of fun when you do.
The kingdom of Gloria stands as a beacon of hope amidst the gathering storm. King Kenrith and Queen Marchesa rule with wisdom and valor, commanding a vast army and a stalwart group of city defenders. As whispers of war reach their borders, the kingdom prepares for battle. The king’s brother, exiled for his wild ways, watches from the shadows, knowing that his time to either protect or challenge the throne is near. The fate of the kingdom rests on the decisions made by its rulers and the loyalty of its people. The theme of the For Glory box is a Kingdom and its protectors, heroes and rulers that fight to defend the people, and are united together. The main theme for the For Glory decks are +1/+1 counters, defenders and Humans.
When Emrakul descended during The Travails, Sigarda was the only archangel to resist her thrall and became the only archangel to survive. With Avacyn gone, the people began to look to Sigarda for hope and protection. Kyler, an Avacynian priest, was one of the first to bring word of Sigarda to the greater populace. He knew that she would protect them, just like Avacyn did. It is in no small part due to his hard work that Sigarda's blessing protects the people of Innistrad.
Key Strategy
Introduction: "Kyler, Sigardian Emissary" leads a powerful human tribal deck that thrives on growing your creatures into unstoppable threats. Kyler's ability to distribute +1/+1 counters to all your humans each time another human enters the battlefield creates an exponential growth effect, turning your army into a formidable force. The deck capitalizes on synergies between humans, counters, and the ability to go wide, making it well-suited for aggressive strategies in both traditional Commander and Two-Headed Giant formats.
Key Cards:
Kyler, Sigardian Emissary: Your commander is the central piece of your strategy. Each time a human enters the battlefield under your control, Kyler grows in power, and he shares that growth with the rest of your humans by distributing +1/+1 counters. The goal is to flood the board with humans, allowing Kyler to grow rapidly and make your team nearly impossible to handle.
Thalia's Lieutenant and Mikaeus, the Lunarch: These cards synergize perfectly with Kyler, as they both deal with +1/+1 counters and humans. Thalia's Lieutenant adds counters to all your humans when it enters the battlefield, while Mikaeus can either distribute counters or grow himself, depending on the situation.
Katilda, Dawnhart Prime and Heronblade Elite: These mana-generating humans help ramp your deck, enabling you to cast multiple spells per turn or deploy Kyler early. Katilda taps for mana equal to the number of humans you control, while Heronblade Elite adds mana for each +1/+1 counter on it.
Sigarda, Champion of Light and Sigarda, Font of Blessings: The Sigarda creatures provide protection and power to your humans. Sigarda, Champion of Light gives your team evasion with flying and enhances your board with a buff, while Sigarda, Font of Blessings offers hexproof, making your team resilient to targeted removal.
Champion of Lambholt and Adeline, Resplendent Cathar: These aggressive creatures synergize with your go-wide strategy. Champion of Lambholt makes your team unblockable as it grows, and Adeline generates additional human tokens every time you attack, further fueling Kyler's ability.
Hardened Scales and The Ozolith, Shattered Spire: These cards enhance your +1/+1 counter strategy. Hardened Scales increases the number of counters placed on your creatures, while The Ozolith ensures no counters are wasted, storing them when creatures die.
Sigarda’s Summons and Sigardian Zealot: These cards are powerful finishers. Sigarda’s Summons turns your humans with counters into 4/4 flying angels, while Sigardian Zealot can give all your creatures a massive power boost, enabling lethal attacks.
Strategy:
Early Game: The early game is all about setting up your mana base and deploying some early threats. Play your ramp cards like Arcane Signet, Rampant Growth, and Katilda, Dawnhart Prime to accelerate your game plan. Deploy key humans like Champion of the Parish, Luminarch Aspirant, and Knight of the White Orchid to begin building your board. Having Kyler out early can quickly escalate your board’s power.
Mid Game: By the mid-game, your board should be growing rapidly. Cast Thalia’s Lieutenant and Mikaeus, the Lunarch to bolster your team with counters. Adeline, Resplendent Cathar and Torens, Fist of the Angels should be generating tokens to trigger Kyler’s ability. Utilize Sigarda, Champion of Light and Heronblade Elite to maintain pressure, and prepare for a big turn with Sigarda’s Summons or Unbreakable Formation to protect and enhance your board. This is the phase where you should start looking to overwhelm your opponents with superior numbers and power.
Late Game: In the late game, your aim is to close out the match with your massive board. Sigardian Zealot can provide the final push by giving your creatures a large buff, while Sigarda’s Summons turns your human tokens into formidable flying threats. Gavony Township and Karn’s Bastion are excellent mana sinks that further bolster your army with additional +1/+1 counters. If you face a board wipe, cards like Eternal Witness and Angel of Glory's Rise can help you recover by bringing back your key pieces. Call the Coppercoats is another excellent way to instantly refill your board with human tokens in case of a setback.
Mulligan Guide:
Opening Hand Considerations: Look for hands with a mix of lands, ramp, and early creatures. A hand with Arcane Signet, Knight of the White Orchid, or Katilda, Dawnhart Prime can help you get ahead quickly. If you have Kyler in your opening hand along with a way to ramp into him early, it’s usually a good keep. A hand with Champion of the Parish and other cheap humans can also be very strong, as it allows you to start snowballing counters immediately.
Hands to Avoid: Avoid hands that lack green mana sources or ramp, as they can leave you struggling to get going. Also, be cautious with hands that are too slow or lack early creatures, as this deck relies on building an early board presence to snowball effectively. Mulligan hands that have too many high-cost spells without the mana to support them.
With this strategy guide, you should have a solid understanding of how to pilot your "Kyler, Sigardian Emissary" deck. By leveraging Kyler’s ability to grow your humans into massive threats and utilizing the powerful synergies within your deck, you can overwhelm your opponents and secure victory through sheer power and numbers.
