Community Catalysts exists to provide quality affordable housing and support services that create communities for seniors, veterans and homeless individuals to thrive. By working with other financial institutions, developers and community partners, Community Catalysts funds and develops affordable housing renovations, new builds and other projects that provide individuals with access to affordable housing and support services that they need.

From January 2013 to October 2021, average Michigan home sale prices increased by 84%. The 3 groups who have the most difficulty finding housing they can afford in Livingston County are workers in lower-paying jobs (retail, food-service, and many manufacturing jobs), seniors on a fixed income, and youth (graduating from high school and college). Housing is considered “affordable” when the occupant is paying no more than 30% of their gross income for housing costs and utilities.

Community Catalysts’ current initiatives to bring more housing that people can afford to Livingston County:
- Housing Catalysts – a community initiative launched in October 2023, with a goal to develop and implement a SMART work plan for Livingston County that produces more affordable and attainable housing over the next 5-7 years.
- A tiny home community in Livingston County using a “rent to own” model, to allow lower-income people to become homeowners.
- Accessory Dwelling Units to add more housing more quickly and in more places than a typical apartment complex would.
