2023 Charity

The 2023 competition raised money for Highlander Hownds!

Meet the newest Highlander Hownds here!

Highlander Hownds serve the students and staff of Howell Public Schools. Highlander Hownds are not service dogs or a personal emotional support animal. They are carefully selected and trained to be therapy dogs in schools. These dogs attend school every day with their caregivers, who house and care for them. By their very presence, these highly trained dogs create positive learning experiences that can help improve a student’s confidence, motivation, and overall academic achievement.

Our Hownds work in many ways. By example, they:

> Model good behavior in the classroom

> Help reduce negative attention-seeking behavior

> Have a calming effect on students whose anxiety

interferes with academic growth

> Encourage positive choices and good decision-making.

Students learn life lessons and are better able to:

> Get along with peers and teachers

> Be more friendly and trusting

> Show respect for personal boundaries

> Resolve conflict without becoming angry

> Be more patient and empathetic

> Express themselves and share the difficulties in their lives

Our goal is to make sure all HPS schools have a Highlander Hownd.

The cost to purchase, train and care for each dog is significant—but well worth it.

Thank you for supporting Howell Senior Survivor and Highlander Hownds!
