What is the Global Scholars Capstone?
The Global Scholars Capstone course serves as an opportunity for students to embody all that it means to be a Highlander. Students will engage in authentic experiential learning and develop social awareness as they investigate the world and recognize perspectives that are different from their own. Collaborating with their teacher mentor and experts from a variety of fields, students will design and implement their action research project to address an issue of global importance. Students may take the lens of global issues, global action; or global issues, local action.
Throughout the course, students engage in a self-selected semester long action-oriented research project adressing issues of global concern.
Students engage in rigorous reserach to develop a deep understanding of the problem, before drawing conclusions and proposing potential solutions.
Scholars then meet with experts to review their solution plan and revise it before putting their hard work into action. Please note, snce these are issues of global importance, many experts live outside of the US, most of these will be done virtually.
And finally, it's time to take action! Students will deploy their project into the world to have a real and lasting global impact.
Scholars wrap up their year with a Flash Talk, in which they present the highlights of their project to the broader community.
