About this program:
This program has two parts: an English for Dental Assisting Support Class and a Hybrid Dental Assisting & Radiology class, with face-to-face lab practice, online internet instruction, and an 8-hour dental office shadowing experience.
Part 1:
The English for Dental Assisting language support class is 42 hours, plus optional tutoring and career advising. This class helps you with study skills, speaking, reading, and vocabulary skills you need to be successful in your dental assisting career.
Part 2:
Introduction to Dental Assisting and Radiology is a noncredit HYBRID course that teaches students entry-level dental assisting job skills. This course is a combination of face-to-face lab practice and online internet instruction, in addition to an 8-hour participation in a dental office shadowing experience. Topics include dental terminology and anatomy, concepts of four-handed dentistry, instrumentation, causes and treatment of common dental diseases, and at least 24 hours of dental radiology instruction as required by the Dental Assisting National Board (DANB) for eligibility to sit for the DANB Radiology Health and Safety (RHS) certification exam.
*You must attend all in-person classes and the shadowing experience. You also must complete all of the online classwork and exams on Canvas by assigned due dates.
You MUST be able to attend ALL parts of the course in their ENTIRETY.
Financial aid is available for eligible students. We can also help you see if you qualify for a tuition voucher from the Columbia Workforce Center. You may also self-pay for the course if you don't have financial need.
