Westside High School's  Culinary Program

The high school culinary program is a dynamic, hands-on curriculum designed to introduce students to the fundamentals of cooking, baking, food safety, and hospitality. Blending practical kitchen experience with classroom instruction, the program prepares students for careers in the culinary and food service industries, as well as post-secondary education in culinary arts or hospitality management.

Students begin with introductory courses focused on kitchen safety, basic cooking techniques, nutrition, and sanitation. As they progress, they explore more advanced topics such as international cuisines, baking and pastry arts, meal planning, and restaurant management. Many programs include opportunities to work in student-run kitchens or cafés, giving students real-world experience in food preparation, customer service, and teamwork.

The program often includes industry-recognized certifications, such as ServSafe, and may offer dual-enrollment or articulation agreements with local culinary schools or community colleges. Students may also participate in competitions, internships, and catering events that enhance both their skills and resumes.

By combining creativity with technical training, the culinary program equips students with valuable life skills and a strong foundation for entering the workforce or continuing their education in culinary or hospitality fields.
