Westside High School Audio Visual Production Program

The High School Audio Video Production Program offers students hands-on experience in the fundamentals of media production, preparing them for careers or further education in the dynamic fields of audio and video technology. Through a combination of classroom instruction and practical projects, students learn essential skills such as video editing, sound recording, lighting design, scriptwriting, and camera operation.

The curriculum covers both technical and creative aspects of production. Students gain proficiency with industry-standard equipment and software, including digital cameras, audio mixers, video editing platforms, and lighting setups. Emphasis is placed on teamwork, storytelling, and project management as students collaborate to produce short films, news segments, podcasts, and live event coverage.

Beyond technical skills, the program fosters critical thinking, communication, and problem-solving abilities, empowering students to bring their creative visions to life. Students also explore career pathways in film, television, radio, digital media, and related fields.

Through partnerships with local media outlets and opportunities for internships or competitions, the program connects students with real-world experiences and networking opportunities. By the end of the program, graduates are equipped with a solid portfolio and foundational skills to pursue post-secondary education or entry-level positions in audio video production.
