Once your action is complete, take time to engage in deep, meaningful reflection. This stage is critical to understanding the full impact of your work. You will:
Thoughtfully evaluate the quality and effectiveness of your service as action by comparing your outcomes to the goals outlined in your original proposal. Highlight what worked well, what could have been improved, and how your efforts made a difference.
Offer insightful reflections on how completing the project has deepened your understanding of service learning—both conceptually and practically. Consider how your perspectives on community, responsibility, and meaningful action have evolved.
Provide specific and accurate examples of how you developed your Approaches to Learning (ATL) skills throughout the process. Describe which skills were strengthened (e.g., collaboration, organization, critical thinking, communication) and how they supported your success in the project.
The final two entries in your process journal should answer the two reflection prompts below.
Reflection Prompt #1
What did you learn from the project? How did you grow as a student, person, or global citizen?
How did your service as action compare to your original goal? Did you have to make adjustments along the way? What would you have done differently?
There are people that have helped you along the way in your project. As you reflect, take the time to express gratitude to those people. Here is the slideshow to help you with thank you notes.
