Choir members have many opportunities to participate in select choral groups in South Central Missouri and beyond. This is where you can find information about the organizations that run these honor ensembles, and how to audition for them.
South Central Missouri Music Educators Association
MMEA offers Honor Choir opportunities for students from 5th - 12th grade. Houston participates in the "South Central" District of MMEA. These large ensembles are made up of students from all over south central Missouri.
MMEA
MMEA also offers a choral ensemble for 4th & 5th grade students from all over the state. Students must audition early in the school year for this select group.
South Central Association
SCA offers a Conference Honor Choir, and a non-auditioned Conference Choir, for 9th-12th grade made up of students from the SCA Conference: Ava, Cabool, Houston, Liberty, Mountain Grove, Salem, Thayer, Willow Springs
Missouri Choral Directors Association (MCDA)
MCDA runs the Missouri All-State Choir. Select Junior & Senior participants from MMEA's District Choir may have the opportunity to audition for this ensemble.
Southwest American Choral Directors Association (SWACDA)
ACDA offers Honor Choirs for students 5th-12th grade every other year. The next opportunity will be in the 2023-2024 school year. These choirs take place at the regional SWACDA Conference. There are fees association with participating in these groups if selected. These large ensembles are made up of students from the Southwest Region of ACDA, which consists of the following states: Arkansas, Colorado, Kansas, Missouri, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Texas
