Please keep in mind you need 4 years of a Fine/Performing Arts class, Foreign Language class, or CTE class, of which two years need to be sequenced years to qualify for the top two tiers of the Hathaway Scholarship. Check out the link to learn more about each level of the scholarship.
College Planning Timeline
Fall Semester
Start visiting college campuses. By the end of the school year, narrow down your college list to 3-4 schools that you think will accept you and 1-2 reach schools.
Register for the PSAT. This is the year that scores will be entered into the National Merit Scholarship Competition. Here are links to both to learn more.
Attend college fairs.
Talk to your parents about how you will finance college costs and how much they expect you to pay. Start looking at scholarship opportunities.
Spring Semester
Take the ACT (required State ACT offered in April and the Early ACT the school offers in March)
Check out summer enrichment programs (http://www.wyo4ed.org).
Start thinking about college essays and letters of recommendation.
Work on a resume including activities, honors, leadership positions, community service, and jobs. You’ll need this info. for college applications and scholarship forms.

Scholarships to apply for if you are a College Bound Junior
Horatio Alger Scholarship: To be eligible to apply for a Horatio Alger State Targeted Scholarships, applicants must meet the following criteria*: Other Criteria are more specific in the Link for the Targeted scholarships.
Be enrolled full time as a high school junior in the United States
Exhibit a strong commitment to pursue and complete a bachelor’s degree at an accredited non-profit public or private institution in the United States (students may start their studies at a two-year institution and then transfer to a four-year institution)
Demonstrate critical financial need ($55,000 or lower adjusted gross family income is required)
Be involved in co-curricular and community service activities
Display integrity and perseverance in overcoming adversity
Maintain a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 2.0; and
Be a United States citizen
The undergraduate application is available from December 1, 2022 – March 15, 2023.
