Each of these activities is intended to last 30 minutes and be a creative starter for the rangatahi going into their fabric technology session for the following 2 hours. The kaiako will determine in which order these are completed and how many are completed based on the group at the time. There is scope to creatively extend each one into a second session based on the kaiako and rangatahi at hand at the time.
Learn/Ako - what is the difference between pattern and repetition? how is it represented in the art works your teacher shows you? Sonja Terk Delauney and Orla Kiely?
Create/Waihanga - using the simple shapes you have and in pairs - no altering of these, create versions or interpretations of these art works within a set frame. Transcribe these interpretations into coloured pencil drawings that are neat and clean.
Share/Tohatoha - how can you convince Miss Laycock/Miss Keene that you could take these artworks and use them creatively in sewing?
Learn/Ako - noticing different surface textures and colours of material scraps, how they contrast against each other and the effect this could have.
Create/Waihanga: groups of students working with several different fragments to recreate a piece of Art - Sonja Terk Delauney or Orla Kiely.
Scissor skills and using glue to connect fabric together.
Share/Tohatoha: assembling the pieces into one arrangement as an art work.
Learn/Ako - what do each of these words mean? Do you have any clues? We will define them clearly before moving on.
Create/Waihanga - gauche vs watercolour paint - both of these paint materials work in what seems the same way but create different effects. one is opaque one is translucent. what happens when you mix them up? what happens when you purposefully use them for their effect?
Share/Tohatoha - a photograph of the work as one class piece.
