Today we had a one group who was experimenting with different cheeses and what you can do with them. They tried to make a mozzarella cheese but it did not work like the boys expected - a little more research is required around why it didn't work and the next phase they should take. However they did produce some fantastic Philippine bread, which was a mixture of sweet and salty.
Day 2 saw the continuation of the students Discovery Projects. In the Foods room we saw
The students have really gone outside the box in some cases and it's awesome seeing some of the younger students from year 7-8 really challenging their skills in the kitchen.
Below you will see a few photos from today, as well as a video on the erupting volcano cake we are attempting.
Using Balloons to shape the chocolate bowls
Final product
The boys used dry ice to make instant ice-cream that they served in their chocolate bowls.
Axel, Vann, Khush and Rannit have had their second day of practice with their Penna Cotta and Mozzarella pastries . They found there was a little too much sugar in their Penna Cotta today. But their bread was amazing
the first process of the pizza making group started today, they grounded out their own mince and made a couple varieties of dough. Next week they will be designing their toppings.
Zyad, Anton, Noah, Ashley, were looking at the science of raising agents and what you need to get bread to rise. Here the group made three pizza bases. Their own sauce and topped each pizza with onions, ground mince and cheese.
After the two weeks of doing this is the final product that Vann, Axel, Khush and Ranit accomplished. It was a Mango smoothie with a Penna Cotta dessert. The boys have worked very hard trying to perfect their final creations
This was the final product of the edible erupting volcano. The structure was made out of 5 layers of chocolate cake, it had a chocolate filling between each layer and then covered in a buttercream icing. The lava was made out of melted white chocolate and food colouring. We got the order of the lava wrong and next time would put the dry ice in first and then pour over the warmed caramel
