I love the song Satellite Call by Sara Bareilles! She is a phenomenal songwriter & performer. In this song the mellow drum groove, gorgeous piano, ethereal nature of Sara's voice as well as other background ethereal-ness all combine to form a meditative, dreamy, longing mood. The lyrics are the icing on the cake; she calls out to people who feel like misfits or loners, telling us we're not alone at all. The chorus is a lot of ooh-ooh-ooh-oohs like none I've ever heard. I thought it was some kind of electronic instrument until I saw a live performance where she sang them. But there must be some effects added to the recording to make the oohs so pipe-like. The overall effect is super other-worldly and I love it.
