Prompt: SAMR 4 Music Classrooms

Think about how you might:

1. use technology to enhance student learning in music classrooms, and

2. use technology to transform student learning in music classrooms.

Describe the teaching context and provide an example for each question.

My most likely future classroom teaching context is an elementary school general music classroom.

1. To enhance student learning I would most likely use a smart board and create slides where students could manipulate elements of a song such as rhythmic figures, solfege syllables, proto-notation and traditional notation, in order to represent a song or compose with the class. This would be an enhancement because I could do the same thing with cards, charts, white board and hands-on materials in a low-tech classroom.

2. To transform student learning in this setting I could use DAWs and online music creation apps to allow students to create their own music in ways that were not possible before this technology.
