Zen Garden

Kindergarten and first grade students at Dupont Elementary made a zen garden to go beneath the tree near their playground. They wanted to include a cover grate that could be lifted on a hinge to keep animals from getting into the sand.

Most of the lumber for this project was reclaimed from a decorative project 3 years ago. The rough and painted sides were jointed, planed, and sanded to refresh the surface.

The materials were then assembled and painted by students to make their new Zen Garden to fill with sand, rakes and stones.
