Mrs. Thompson-Tate challenged her 9th grade science students positively impact their local environment. These students chose to build a Green House in the HHS court yard that could be used and maintained by Mrs. Seiler's ecology students.
Once students decided on the most practical and cost-effective greenhouse to make, their proposed a shopping list to the Department of Innovation. They took a trip to Lowes' and learned house to shop for a variety of building materials from their list.
Some members of the group worked outside on the layout and drove in rebar and fence posts for the the base support structure. PVC pipes were bent along the rebar structure to create the PVC frame.
In the maker space, students used screws, pocket holes and stables to assemble the ends and the door before wrapping and sealing it with 5 mm plastic wrap.
Wood was screwed on to the PVC and the ends were attached to strengthen the frame. The whole body was wrapped and sealed with PVC. The door and raised panel beds were added last to complete the build.
