Environmental science students in Mrs. Thompson-Tate's class build a compost bin for the courtyard to reduce waste going into trash cans and to provide fertile soil for the gardening club.

Students found plans for a compost heap online, adapted it to the space they wanted to use, and did the math to determine what materials they would need to purchase and how they would cut them to be as efficient as possible. That also included making a cost/benefit analysis to determine if they wanted to buy bare wood then finish it with an outdoor sealer or use pressure-treated lumber.
