Information for Mentors

Dear Business/Organization Sponsor:

Thank you for volunteering to share your work day with a student at Hopedale.  All 11th  and 12th grade students as well as all students enrolled in our Innovation Pathway Biomedical and Business programs are encouraged to participate in a hands-on learning experience that is hard to duplicate within the classroom setting.  Participating in a job shadow allows students to get a first hand look at an occupation that interests them before graduating from high school and also helps them to begin building their social network.  Students have prepared for this experience and will be asking questions throughout the day.  A reflection assignment will be completed in their Explore classes upon their return to school.

Expectations:

Students do not have to stay with the same person all day long.  If there is an opportunity for a student to rotate through different areas of the business, please encourage it.  Students do not have to be present for the entire school day depending on the business hours (our goal is a minimum of 4 hours on site).  Please answer the student’s questions to the best of your ability.  Students will be adding their reflections of the experience to their individual Career Portfolios.  Lastly it may be helpful to review the the student expectations on our Job Shadow Day webpage as well as the list of Frequently Asked Questions
