Hi, I’m Jamie and I am a Senior Lecturer in Psychology at Liverpool Hope University.
I’m broadly interested in how adult-child interactions influence language development. I am Principal Investigator on a project funded by the Educational Endowment Foundation in which we will be designing and evaluating a brand new programme that is designed to inspire and sustain a love of reading. I've also featured as an on-screen expert for the BBC's Tiny Happy People Campaign
Prior to life at Liverpool Hope, I worked at the Leeds Child Development Unit at the University of Leeds) on an ESRC project in which we investigated how children experience, understand, and use adjectives across the socioeconomic spectrum. Using eyetracking experiments, corpus analyses, and a feasibility study, the project aimed to reveal how children’s socioeconomic background might affect their descriptive language abilities. Prior to this, I worked at the Liverpool Language Lab at the University of Liverpool on another ESRC project in which I explored how shared book reading fosters language development.
Outside of work, I enjoy Football, Rugby & Heavy Metal music. I also have a small child called Ethan, and a sassy miniature schnauzer called Edith.
