Cosmetology I (Foundations) Intro – Grade 9
This foundational course introduces 9th grade students to the world of cosmetology through both theory and hands-on learning. Students will explore topics such as salon safety, basic hair care, nail care, skin care, professional ethics, and career readiness. This course is designed to help students develop the basic skills, vocabulary, and understanding needed to decide if they want to continue in the cosmetology program. Completion of this course prepares students for Cosmetology Level 2, where they begin learning on live models.
Cosmetology II (Techniques) – Grade 10
Building on the foundations learned in Intro to Cosmetology, this course deepens students’ knowledge and practical skills in hair cutting, color application, chemical texturizing, nail technology, and skincare. Students begin working with live models under instructor supervision to develop confidence and precision in their techniques. In addition, students receive their New Jersey Student Cosmetology Permits and begin providing salon services to clients on Wednesdays through Fridays. Professionalism, time management, and sanitation practices are reinforced to prepare students for advanced client services in Level 3.
Cosmetology III Senior (Salon Studio) – Grade 11/12
This capstone course is the final year of the cosmetology program, where students work in a fully operational school salon Monday through Friday. With extensive hands-on practice and client interaction from Wednesday to Friday, students prepare to meet the 1,000-hour licensing requirement. Focus areas include advanced color and styling techniques, state board practical exam preparation, resume building, and salon management. Upon successful completion, students are eligible to sit for the NJ State Board Cosmetology Licensing Exam.
