Cosmetology I Foundations – Grade 9
This foundational course introduces 9th grade students to the world of cosmetology through both theory and hands-on learning. Students will explore topics such as salon safety, basic hair care, nail care, skin care, professional ethics, and career readiness. This course is designed to help students develop the basic skills, vocabulary, and understanding needed to decide if they want to continue in the cosmetology program. Completion of this course prepares students for Cosmetology Level 2, where they begin learning on live models.
Cosmetology II Techniques – Grade 10
Building on the foundations learned in Intro to Cosmetology, this course deepens students’ knowledge and practical skills in hair cutting, color application, chemical texturizing, nail technology, and skincare. Students begin working with live models under instructor supervision to develop confidence and precision in their techniques. Professionalism, time management, and sanitation practices are reinforced to prepare students for advanced client services in Level 3.
Cosmetology III Studio – Grade 11
At this stage, students receive their New Jersey Student Cosmetology Permits and begin providing salon services to clients on Wednesdays through Fridays. Emphasis is placed on advanced techniques in hair design, color correction, facial treatments, and client communication. Students gain real-world salon experience while continuing to refine their skills and build a professional portfolio. All services are performed under instructor guidance following state board regulations.
Cosmetology IV Advanced Senior Stylists– Grade 12
This capstone course is the final year of the cosmetology program, where students work in a fully operational school salon Monday through Friday. With extensive hands-on practice and client interaction from Wednesday to Friday, students prepare to meet the 1,000-hour licensing requirement. Focus areas include advanced color and styling techniques, state board practical exam preparation, resume building, and salon management. Upon successful completion, students are eligible to sit for the NJ State Board Cosmetology Licensing Exam.
