I grew up poor with a single Mom in a wealthy town in Connecticut. I work my tail off to never be poor again. My children inspired me to become an entrepreneur. The problems I faced were that I had no capital and had to use my credit cards. The biggest challenge I have faced is growing my customer base. The biggest decision was to quit my job to start my business. Time is more valuable than anything. You have to save it for Family. I try to be there for my children. They are all that matters in life. Money and success are nothing without family. My personal life doesn’t matter much to me. I just want my family to be happy. I am trying to implement some innovative ideas in the next few years. I have a new AI tool that we are working on to allow me more time with my family. I started a training facility for my products. None of my competitors offer that. Some habits that make me a stronger entrepreneur are I wake up early to start my day, I’m a very good listener, and have no social media. Success to me is that I have 2 great children and an awesome wife. It doesn’t get any better than that.
I have a strong drive to be better and the ability to control my own future is what inspired me to become an entrepreneur. I faced problems with staff, funds, and many other setbacks when I started my business. Growing up my father was self employed so that had an influence on me. One of my biggest challenges is the fear of the unknown and leaving the safety of regular employment. I have to make big decisions all the time. The key is to make a decision and not avoid it because you can always adjust. I do not balance my work and personal life very well. Work tends to over power personal. I have 3-5 ideas a day because I am a visionary so they come constantly. I create companies that feed each other because I like to control all of the moving parts. I would say I am a strong entrepreneur because of my drive and I am not afraid to take chances. Success to me is taking action on ideas I have regardless of whether it makes money.
I always had the vision of owning my own company as my father had done. As a child I saw what my father had built and working for corporate America after college for 11 years. This helped me visualize what it took to be successful. Take the good points / bad points of large companies and make you small company unique. Problems I faced starting my business were money and personal. The vision and execution were there. The biggest challenge I have faced is cash flow early on and personnel throughout my entire career. The biggest decision I have had to make is going out on the limb to start something from scratch. Balancing work and my personal life has gotten easier over the years but owning your own business is not what most people expect. The balance is always tipped towards the company. Some innovative ideas/projects I plan to implement in the next few years is water harvesting and re-use. It takes a lot of capital and education to implement this, but I am working on it. I am always watching our competition and looking at other avenues to bring under our umbrella. Hard work is a habit that makes me a stronger entrepreneur. I wake up early and work long hours. Helping to feed the 95 employees I got along with their families makes me do this every day and that makes me feel successful.
