December 2020In 2012, some of Hoopeston’s city leaders and local business owners had come to the conclusion that Christmas needed to be a bigger holiday in this small town. The best place to put the bright and beautiful event was our very own McFerren Park. Now, of course this would take a few years to get everything together for this special event. Two years later, in 2014, the event had its grand opening. November 27th, 2014 was the first day the light show began. They have over twenty-five displays and tens of thousands of lights. Of course, that costs a lot of money for all the electricity being used. We have many donors/sponsors to help keep this show going.
The Carle Foundation Hospital of Hoopeston is one of the biggest sponsors for this event. Some other sponsors include The City of Hoopeston, Heritage Health, Gibson Health of Hoopeston, Russell Leigh & Associates, Anderson Funeral Home, Anthem Chevrolet Buick, and NewWave Communications. You can also donate to this event and to other organizations when driving through at the donation box located by the entrance/exit.
Many people go to see this beautiful event. It really brings Christmas cheer to those who want it. Not only does it have Christmas displays, they also have other holiday friendly displays. One of the other big displays is the ‘God Bless America’ displays. They light that one up on Veterans day. They begin lighting up all of the other displays the Saturday after Thanksgiving and they stop them on January 2nd.
Come out and see these beautiful displays, open seven days a week from dusk-11pm.
