Participation means joining in and helping with something that makes a difference, like a group project or community activity, or getting involved with governments or organizations that have the power to make change. Meet two of the many young people actively participating in changing the world around them!
When Crystal Starr Lewis was six years old, she decided she would grow up to be a leader. Even though she had many struggles in her life, she was determined to use her voice for good. As a young person, Crystal continued to get involved in government and community. She worked with the Prime Minister's Youth Council, helped create an Indigenous youth internship program, and eventually went to school to learn the Squamish language so she could work as an interpreter. By the age of 12, Rae had realized she felt strongly about the environment and wanted to make a change. She helped organize rallies and strikes, and then decided she wanted to make sure kids' voices were heard in government. This led her to join the Young Canadians Parliament, where she could make sure the government listened to what she had to say. Learn more about Rae by clicking here.
