Lifestyle choices means being the change you want to see in the world. Not everyone can challenge the government, but we can all make small changes in how we live our lives and encourage others to do the same -- and often that leads to bigger changes! Meet two of the many young people whose changes in their own lives led them to become international activists.
At the age of 7, Lilly moved to the Netherlands speaking no English. She started picking up plastic to practice her counting and quickly gathered 91 pieces. Inspired to change her lifestyle to match what she saw, she made gathering and sorting plastic part of her life, posting pictures to social media to raise awareness of her goals. Greta is well known throughout the world for her protests and advocacy about climate change, but she started much smaller: by making changes in her own lifestyle. When Greta first learned about the environmental problems in the world, she started by thinking about her own life and making big changes in how she lived. For example, she found out that both airplane travel and meat production produce large amounts of greenhouse gases, so she decided she would become vegan and refused to travel by airplane. She went on to become an international advocate for the environment. Learn more about Greta by clicking here.
