When Margaret heard that the Worcester Tree Initiative (WTI) was giving trees to Worcester residences for free she knew she had to get one. After receiving multiple trees for her yard and learning more about what WTI does she wanted to get involved. Margaret is now a member of the WTI Steering Committee, where she provides support and oversees the progress of WTI. Margaret has several trees in her yard from WTI and has also helped her neighbors get involved with the organization. Her journey with trees has provided her with deeper relationships with her neighbors, family, and friends. For example, Margaret said she brought a tree over to a neighbor and their shared conversation about the tree resulted in a new friendship between the neighbors. Margaret refers to her trees as her 'tree family,' which shows that she is very closely attached to them as she treats them like they are part of her family. Through WTI, she has learned how to keep her trees healthy and cared for. She firmly believes that people should give back what they get and to always be grateful for what you have. Through her involvement in the community and with the help of WTI she is able to do just that.
