Brian is a leading member of the Green Hill Park Coalition. He received his first tree from the Worcester Tree Initiative (WTI) 7 years ago for his personal home. In Spring 2016, WTI and the Green Hill Park Coalition teamed up, with Brian spearheading the project, to help restore Memorial Grove. Memorial Grove is a living World War I memorial located in Green Hill Park in Worcester, MA. This grove of trees honors the soldiers from Worcester who lost their lives in the war. Due largely to the Asian Longhorned Beetle (ALB) infestation, many trees in Green Hill Park died. Replanting the 214 trees that were lost around this part of Green Hill Park is an important part of the project. WTI wanted to plant more diverse trees in the grove that better reflect the trees of New England’s forests. In 2016, WTI planted the first installment of trees, and today have reached 130 trees planted in the grove. WTI and the Green Hill Park Coalition will continue to plant trees and water and maintain the current trees ensuring that they are healthy and look well maintained.
