Steps to Study Abroad

September-November

1. Attend the Study Abroad EXPO: Monday, 8 September 2025, 5-7pm, Hogan Ballroom. This is a tabling event where prospective study abroad students can talk to program reps, HC Study Abroad staff, and peers who are back “on the hill” after studying abroad

2. Attend the Study Abroad “General” Information Session: Monday, 15 September, 5-7pm, Seelos Theater. All students are highly encouraged to attend. The many steps to studying abroad will be explained. 

3. Research Study Abroad Programs.

4. Attend Site-Specific Information Sessions: Specific details for specific programs. Attend as many as you like! Follow us on Instagram @hcstudyabroad for reminders!

5. Attend Drop-in advising (Wed/Th 2-4pm) or book a advising appointment with the appropriate Study Abroad staff member. Come prepared with specific questions. 

6. Check in with the Study Abroad Faculty Advisor for your major(s)/minor(s)/concentration(s).

7. Get in touch with on-campus Global Ambassadors to learn more about studying abroad from your fellow students.

8. Apply to study abroad: our application portal opens 15 September 2025. All applications and required materials are due 30 November 2025.

February 2026 onwards

• Study Abroad directors review applications and make acceptance decisions by February 1. Students will be notified via HC email when their application status changes. 

• Passport scans are due to be uploaded to the online application by 2/15/26

• After students are accepted by Holy Cross, they'll receive instructions via email for applying directly to the host University or program.

  1. • Fall and academic year study abroad students can expect to apply to their host institution/program between February and April prior to the program start date.

     • Spring study abroad students can expect to apply to their host institution/program between September and October prior to the program start date.

• For programs that require a student visa, students will be contacted by the Office of Study Abroad with application instructions. 

  1. • Fall and academic year study abroad students can expect to apply for student visas between March and July prior to the program start date.

     • Spring study abroad students can expect to apply for students visas between August and October prior to the program start date.

• Students are required to attend a mandatory pre-departure information session prior to departure. 

  1. • Fall and academic year study abroad students can expect to attend pre-departure sessions between March and April prior to the program start date.

     • Spring study abroad students can expect to attend pre-departure session between October and November prior to the program start date.
