Salve! My name is Signora Biccari and I am looking forward to teaching you the beautiful Italian language. The purpose of this course is  to immerse each student in the Italian language and culture, and to teach them a basic ability focused on speaking, listening, reading and writing.  The course will be designed to be communicative, interactive and engaging for students. I hope that you find Italian class interesting, exciting, challenging and fun, BENVENUTI ALLA LEZIONE D’ITALIANO!

The following information will help you prepare for a successful year.

1. Course Description and Goals

In Italian students will study all aspects of language development including: speaking, listening, reading, and writing.  We will be following the school’s Intro to Italian Curriculum. In addition we will use teacher created materials and audio-visuals. Each chapter contains new vocabulary and new grammar structures for the students to build their communication competency. The goal is for students to be able to communicate in a meaningful way in real world situations, to gain a strong foundation in the Italian language, prepare for Italian 1, and to connect with the Italian culture.

      If a student is a frequent offender intervention will be necessary and students will begin at stage 2- 3.

*Severe Clause:  IMMEDIATE REMOVAL FROM CLASS & CONDUCT REPORT TO ADMINISTRATION

3. Grading

Assessments (40%): Listening, Speaking, Reading & Writing 

Quizzes and Projects (30%)

Classwork & Class Participation (15%)

Homework (15%)

4. Absences and Make-up Work

Students are responsible for making up the work they miss when they are absent. Students may refer to Google Classroom for missed work. For absences of three or more days, students must arrange a make-up schedule with me.

5. Late Work

All assignments and projects are to be submitted fully completed by the due date. If an assignment is not turned in the day it is due, then the student receives a missing grade (M). The missing grade will be counted as a zero if the student does not complete the assignment. The assignment will be graded if the student turns in the completed work late. However, the assignment will have a deduction in points (5% to 50% deduction) based on when the assignment is turned in. It is the STUDENT’S responsibility to notify the teacher that they have turned in a late assignment. No credit will be given for assignments handed in after the unit is over.

6. Extra Credit

 The policy for Italian is that I DO NOT offer the opportunity to improve a grade by giving extra assignments. All students are expected to complete the assignments given to everyone without relying on extra credit work to improve the grade. 

7. Extra Help

Students are to attend extra help or to complete a make-up quiz from absences as needed. If you received a C- or below on an assessment, it is highly recommended that you ask questions, make time to practice, and retake the assessment with teacher permission. 

  Tips for success: 

• Plan ahead and be prepared for class

• Be on time 

• Participate in Italian and stay engaged 

• Practice Italian outside of class 

• Use the Quizlet links to the chapter vocabulary and grammar posted on Google Classroom

• Use extra resources on GOOGLE CLASSROOM Quizlet.com, music/songs, movies, news, and extra links, use www.wordreference.com (Not Google Translate)

• Be brave, enjoy, and maintain a positive mindset
