Paws for Mind is a Service Learning project led by Anna Peterson and Chloe Rua Booth focusing on childhood mental health awareness. We are hosting a dog therapy night at the Holliston Public Library on November 24th, 2025.
My name is Chloe Rua-booth, and I'm a sophomore at HHS. I am an active member of the Culture club, the Medical club, and the SADD club. I play volleyball and tennis. I am very passionate about childhood mental health and wellbeing. Children are the future, and providing them with the best possible childhood will ensure a better future for the world, which has helped inspire me to create this project.
My name is Anna Peterson, and I'm currently a sophomore at HHS. I play soccer, and I run indoor and outdoor track. I am also the president of the HHS Culture Club and an active member of the Leos Club. I'm also a member of the Student Council. I have an avid love of animals, and one of my biggest passions is mental health awareness, which inspired me to create this project.
Childhood mental health has become a more prominent problem in our society with the rise of social media, as well as lingering effects from the COVID-19 pandemic. Higher rates of kids have been experiencing mental health issues such as anxiety and depression. We wanted to create this project because we feel that it is such an important issue in today’s society, and we believe that there are more actions that can be taken to raise awareness as well as find ways to support it. The goal of this project is to show new ways children can cope with their mental health struggles and improve their outlook on life.
Our goal is to break the stigma that comes with talking about mental health and to create a safe environment where children can express their feelings. We want to show the different ways children can cope with their mental health, and show them that there are safer, healthier ways to deal with mental health. Specifically, we want to focus on the use of dog therapy as an outlet for kids to express their emotions.

We have gone through struggles with finding therapy dogs to attend our event due to pricing and difference. However, thanks to aid from our very own Mr. Kenny, we were able to find Pat Gibbs and her team. After that, we scheduled our event for November 24th at the Holliston Public Library. From there, we began promoting our event, using the school and Holliston Youth and Family Services newsletters to get the word out. We are also working on creating pamphlets for parents about childhood mental health and how to cope with it.
On November 24th, we held our dog therapy night event. With the help of Katherine Timmons, Pat Gipps, and Rich Powers, we were able to have the event. Children were able to come to the library and spend time with the therapy dogs, along with board games and coloring sheets. Children in the Holliston community were able to learn more about mental health in their community while also having fun.
We have the opportunity to host our dog therapy night at the Holliston Public Library. They, specifically Katherine Timmons, provided us with flexible dates and aid in what we need for the event.
Pat Gipps is a member of the Holliston community who provides therapy dogs to the Holliston High School. She is providing us with a therapy dog for our event. Rich Powers is another member of the community who brought a therapy dog to our event.
Holliston Youth and Family Services is a public service in the town of Holliston. They provide free therapy for families and help create a safe community. They are helping us promote our event.
By normalizing mental health and starting mental health campaigns the community can help create a loving and safe environment for children.
