Artist's Statement:

I work with both representational and abstract imagery. I am interested in and inspired by the patterns and forms in nature, on a macro and micro level. Pulling from my ever-expanding cache of natural imagery, and utilizing personal and universal symbols, my mixed media drawings and paintings represent systems is nature. Layers of interlocking motifs represent interconnectedness. Sometimes obscured and sometimes visible on the surface, strata influence one another. The imagery, as well as the processes, reference ecological systems, in which we are inseparably entwined. I enjoy the process of creating controlled events while responding to the unexpected. Through layering and juxtaposing patterns and forms, materials, and techniques, each piece evolves formally. As an illustrator, my work also reflects my love and knowledge of nature and children through landscapes, animals and the art of storytelling.
