Digital Portfolios
artsonia
Dear Parents & Guardians,
Artsonia is the learning platform used at Robert Adams Middle School for Art. It is my goal to connect each student's family to our incredible online gallery by the end of September. Each artist has a digital art portfolio that grows with them during middle school. Please use the parent invitation (sent home & shown here, left) to sign up your artist, receive important updates about their progress, and to view artwork, artist's statements and my teacher feedback. You will also be able to leave private feedback for your artist and to purchase custom keepsakes- an ongoing fundraiser enabling the purchase of art supplies outside our usual budget. Additional information and contact info is provided below.
FOR PARENTS & GUARDIANS:
Traditionally, portfolios in the visual arts have been used to showcase an artist’s best work. For 21st century learners, digital portfolios are an effective assessment tool, providing evidence of growth, documentation of student process, creating an opportunity for self reflection and ease of sharing with a larger audience. For all these reasons and more, I have made keeping a digital portfolio a key component of the art curriculum at Robert Adams Middle School.
I selected the platform artsonia for our students and you can watch a brief introductory video about it here: About Artsonia. Artsonia has stood the test of time and serves as a fundraiser for our program; 20% of your keepsake purchases come back to our program's account allowing us to purchase art supplies throughout the year and makes your children feel great! We use artsonia's "classroom mode" which means students upload and edit photographs of their own artwork on iPads and maintain their own digital portfolios.
Setting up your child’s artsonia account allows you to see your child’s work as they complete it and to view my teacher feedback. You should receive an email from artsonia in late September. Please click on the link contained in that email to confirm that you would like to set up your account. You can join your child's fan club, and encourage friends and family to do the same; you will receive an email each time your child adds new work to his or her portfolio, and you will be able to give supportive feedback. If you prefer not to get emails about keepsakes, only about your child's work, you can adjust your preferences easily in account settings. Your child will need to access this account to enter artist statements and read my feedback from home, so it is helpful to add emails of all guardians, particularly if your child goes between homes.
If you have any questions or concerns call artsonia at 1-800-869-9974 (9am-5pm Mon-Fri) or contact Mrs. Hebert at: heberth@holliston.k12.ma.us or (508)-429-0657 X4111. Thank you,
Heather Hebert, Art Teacher Robert Adams Middle School
