Log on to artsonia
go to my teacher webpage under digital portfolios and scroll down to "for students".
Use the portfolio review handout as a checklist and make sure you have everything on artsonia that you should.
Use any extra class time to complete incomplete projects
Write your name on the board if you have a problem (doubles, need statement sent back, etc.) and cross it off when it has been fixed.
Create something in the Drawing Studio Center.
If you didn't get to try zentangle, this is a nice option.
Create a Zentangle
1. Start your design by creating anchor points
2. Try at least one of the "tangles" shown:
Holllibaugh,
Heart Rope,
Henna Drum,
Hi-Cs, or
Huggins.
3. Connect the points with curving lines
4. Fill in every section with a different, carefully crafted design, pattern or texture
5. Add variety in values with shading or with color

Week of: 5/30-316/1-6/2-6/3
Big Ideas & Art Vocabulary:
Unity in an artwork creates a sense of harmony and wholeness, by using similar elements within the composition and placing them in a way that brings them all together.
Repetition -refers to one object or shape repeated; pattern is a combination of elements or shapes repeated in a recurring and regular arrangement. This can also be called a visual rhythm, a combination of elements repeated, but with variations; repetition of sounds is also used by musicians to create rhythm.
Strategies:
Everyone has different art pieces, so everyone has different visual problems to solve; each of you will have to decide which of these strategies will work for you, or come up with another strategy for solving your visual problems.
Look at all your prints. Are there any that can stand alone? Why or why not?
Add a border
try white colored pencil,
silver sharpie
oil pastel
Re-use your stencil
to redefine your focal point
to repeat a shape
to trace and cut out
Collage
Create a Focal Point by Introducing a new material
"Bling" it with: glitter glue, sequins, beads, buttons, googly eyes, yarn, fabric, specialty papers- a little goes a long way!
crazy scissors
combining multiple prints
layering construction paper over a patterned background
Series
Do you have multiple prints that work together? Photograph them in a grid format, as artist Andy Warhol in his Marilyn Monroe Diptych, 1962, seen below.
Monoprinting is a form of printmaking that has lines or images that can only be made once, unlike most printmaking, where there are multiple originals. There are many techniques of monoprinting as this art form allows freedom and encourages spontaneity. I want to encourage you to experiment with the various materials on your tables, and the variety of marks and textures that are possible with these tools. Many of you have made a stencil that can be used in your print. You will work positively by adding paint with rollers called brayers and brushes and negatively by removing ink with a brush, rags or cotton swab or various tools.
Brayer - a tool used for rolling paint or ink.
Stencil- a thin sheet of cardboard, plastic, or metal with a pattern or letters cut out of it, used to produce the cut design on the surface below by the application of ink or paint through the holes. Select a simple contour for your stencil and cut it out. Bridges and Islands are utilized in effective stencil designs. Stencils make use of both positive space and negative space.
Contour- an outline or silhouette of a form.

All artwork must be ready for display. We will be hanging it up around school next week!
2D work must be matted. Sign your name on the front and class section on the back.
3D work should have a name tag made from a notecard with your name, grade, title and class section on the back. You should also put masking tape with your class section on the back.
All work must be turned in on my red desk today, by the end of class, otherwise you must ask me at end of class about a further extension.
If you think you have finished, ask for feedback from peer; see if either of you notice any "areas of distraction" that should be eliminated.
Post your work to artsonia and use the blue worksheet to complete your artist's statement; if you run out of time and need to write your artist's statement from home, remember this guide is in your shared art folder.
Then, make a small frame or "mat" to prepare your artwork for display. Watch the instructional video “how to mat your artwork” and remember to sign your name on the front and write your class section on the back.
Turn in your finished matted work on my roll book on my red desk.
So far I have collected 720 hands and we have raised $1,368 for children in poverty. They will be sent in next week so please check your portfolio now for any hands that have not been included your work in the fundraiser.

Do you see a green "approved" or a red "needs edit"? It is your responsibility to maintain your account. If there are edits, complete them promptly.
Read my feedback and any T.A.G.S from other students. I manage all the accounts so please let me know if you need help or if there are problems.
click the above link and type in Holliston in the search
click on the artwork you want to comment on
click in the bottom right corner comment on Student Screen Name
Click on enter web comment- (if you aren't 13 yet you can just look at work and TAG without entering web comments)
Turn it at the end of class or take it with you and turn it in by class next week if you would still like credit. You will not get credit if you do not write your name and class section on your sheet.
If you have completed everything above, the Drawing Studio Center is open. Go to the Inspiration Station Bulletin Board at the back of the classroom (orange envelopes are drawing studio) and select a specific challenge to work on. My suggestion of the day is Zentangle; a book, thin sharpies and paper are on the front table.
If you think you have finished, ask yourself "is there is anything I can still do make my work better?" Also ask for feedback from peer; see if either of you notice any "areas of distraction" that should be eliminated.

You have grown as an artist by trying something new or building on previous skills to create something new; you have challenged yourself!
In the imagine and sketch steps of the process you have planned carefully.
You have practiced skills and techniques needed to execute your idea
You have your personal best level of craftsmanship, and areas of distraction have been eliminated. For painters, you used at least 3 different painting techniques. For weavers, you used at least 3 different stitches. For other studios, you are similarly challenging yourself to use a variety of techniques in your piece.
Discussion topics:
What Makes a work of art original?
Technology: What searches will be most useful? (Basketball art will be much more useful than a search for basketball). Please stay open to multiple possibilities and Imagine what art materials will best express your idea.
The W.O.W. process continues with "Inspire" and "sketch" this week:

When the three minute timer goes off please stop working right away; I will dismiss you by table and collect your work. Be sure to have you name and class artist on everything.
Remember to sign out your iPads & plug them back in.
No new exit tickets this week- complete your rubrics!
1) Cut two arms lengths of yarn.
We are using up some neutral colors (earth tones) for this skill builder, but you can add one contrasting color- in the middle of the room if you like.
2) Thread your needle.
Make a clean and slightly angled cut at the end of your yarn
tie the string loosely because you will have to take the needle off at the end of class
3) Begin weaving your weft using an over under pattern.
Notice that the first row starts with the yarn pulled all the way to the end
Notice that if you weave too tight, your warp strings will not stay parallel; check after each row that they are still straight.
Weave at least 8 rows of weft using an over under repeating pattern.
Before you continue weaving, ask yourself if you completed your tree drawing & rubric and uploaded it to artsonia. Both the tree drawing and the weaving will be due next week. You may choose to bring work home to get caught up, so plan accordingly.
Check your weaving with a peer, complete your weaving rubric, and show Mrs. H. before you upload your weaving to artsonia in the Weaving Studio Center.
No new exit tickets this week :)
You can bundle extra yarn around four fingers and tuck into your warp strings.
Your table should look like this:
Winning table gets candy!
If you miss an art class it is your responsibility to look at this page, find out what you missed and make up the work.
Do not add color. It is fine if you would like to work a bit more on your tree today as long as you allow enough time at the end of class to add it to your artsonia account.
Complete the rubric in your HAPARA folder:
Go to your google drive icon,
then look in your shared folders,
find your shared art folder,
find and complete the skill builder tree rubric.
Remember to edit photos: try rotate, brighten and autofix
Select a descriptive title using capitals for the first letter of each word as in the title of a book.
NO ARTIST'S STATEMENTS
Complete these to be dismissed
REMINDERS
Bring a pencil, chromebooks and headphones or earbuds to every class
Bring a sweatshirt or jacket this month
