The intensive in-home program is responsible for addressing the clinical needs of the child and family. Current intensive in-home counseling provided by H & N staff addresses concerns of children aged 5 to 21 and their families who require assistance with psychosocial, behavioral, cognitive, affective, and educational needs. We assist children and youth who demonstrate a clinical necessity arising from a condition due to mental behavior or emotional illness that results in significant functional impairment in major life activities.
The goals of Intensive In-Home Services are to:
Preserve and strengthen family unity and improve the family’s ability to function with greater adaptation to stressors that may occur within the family
Prevent out-of-home placement and the significant disruption of the family that accompanies the crisis of removing an individual from the home
Bring psychotherapeutic intervention into the home to strengthen the family’s ability to cope with stress
Stabilize and improve the functioning of the individual and their family
Introduce and mobilize resources for the individual, the family, and the community to address the current difficulties
Transition the individual successfully back into the home and community
Coordinate external resources necessary to improve the functioning of the individual/family
Demonstrate cost savings over traditional inpatient care
Coordinate services being provided to the individual and family for an integrated delivery system
Individual Counseling provides an opportunity to work on solving specific problems and to discuss feelings and issues in a confidential and supportive environment.
This approach assists with the establishment of trust and openness, the development of treatment goals, the clarification of issues and values, and enhancing decision-making skills.
Family Counseling targets emotional distress in any family member that may impact or affect all other members of the family. These sessions usually address areas of conflict, communication problems, and realistic goal-setting for continued recovery once the consumer leaves the program.
Crisis intervention services are available to individuals both by program staff and the local Community Services Board Emergency Services for the purpose of ensuring client safety and enhancing coping skills.
Counselors provide youth with activities focusing on enhancing self-esteem and developing positive male/female identity. These activities include a life plan, reading, journaling, art projects, community services, etc. that prepare the youth physically, emotionally, culturally, and intellectually for adulthood. We also work with the youth to reduce and eliminate negative behaviors and increase positive pro-social skills in their home and community and through groups utilizing the skill streaming for pro-social behavior curriculum and anger management. The long-term goal for each youth is to develop the competency to become a self-sufficient adult with the ability to lead a successful, productive life within the community.
