Dining Services Update

November 20, 2023

As an update to the email sent last week in regard to the big construction cut affecting the school's telephone lines;

We have been informed that the phones will remain down for the foreseeable future and have not given us an ETA. We understand that this may be frustrating and we understand any frustration or concern. Unfortunately, at this time it is an area-wide problem and is out of the schools' hands.  We will continue to keep you updated as we get more information.

In the interim, we advise that you reach out VIA email or set up a Google Meet with your daughter's teacher. Teacher email addresses can be found on PowerSchool.

Anything attendance-related should be sent to Ms. Fumagalli at administration@hnmcs.ca

If you have an emergency that you need to contact the school, please call the school's cell phone at (647)-248-9287. We ask that you use your discretion as this is for emergency use only and continue to advise reaching out VIA email where possible.

Thank you for your patience in this matter.

We have been informed that due to unforeseen issues, the construction is taking longer than anticipated. As a result of this, the phones will be down until Friday. We will keep you updated as we get more information.

In the interim, if you are unable to get a hold of the school, we advise that you reach out VIA email or set up a Google Meet with your daughter's teacher. Teacher email addresses can be found on PowerSchool. Anything attendance-related can be sent to Ms. Fumagalli at administration@hnmcs.ca

Thank you for your patience in this matter.

As many of you may be aware, the school's phone systems have been down. After further investigation, it has come to our attention that a cable is down on Lakeshore.  It's a big construction cut that is unfortunately out of the school's hands and not isolated to just us.

Phone crews are working around the clock to get this repaired and they anticipate having this done latest by Monday.

In the interim, if you are unable to get a hold of the school, we advise that you reach out VIA email or set-up a Google Meet with your daughter's teacher. Teacher email addresses can be found on PowerSchool. Anything attendance-related can be sent to Ms. Fumagalli at administration@hnmcs.ca

Faculty member emails can be found on the MYHNMCS Intranet.

We are happy to welcome back our social worker, Joanne Fox.

She will be here Thursday mornings from 8:30-10:30.

Anyone looking for an apt should go through her guidance counsellor to have this set up or directly to Kristin Prillo for MS. There is a consent form that must be signed by parents for anyone in Middle School.

As a reminder please see this updated contact chart.

New HNMCS Contact Chart 2023-2024

October 10, 2023

Please ensure that your daughter stays home if she is feeling unwell (any symptoms) and that they abide by any provincial or public health restrictions in place.

September 29, 2023

Please note that pick up time is by 4:00 Monday- Thursday. Please remind your daughter that she should be sitting quietly either in the cafeteria or at the front door awaiting your arrival. If you are running late, please let the office know before 3:45 whenever possible. Also, the parking lot is one way - do not exit through the entrance this is a safety issue.

September 15, 2023

Just a few reminders for safety: please note that the parking lot is one way only - people are driving out the “in” entrance and this is not safe at any time during the day. Also, when you come to pick up your daughter between the hours of 3:15 and 3:45, or when buses are present, please park in the parking lot and wait for her to come to you. The space beside the Head’s spot is also not safe as this is where our students will need to cross to get to their parents. Please discuss with your child where you will meet at the end of the day.

Also of note, the cell phone policy per grade has been added to the family handbook and we can republish it - it has not changed from last year:

MS - There are no phones allowed in the middle school - at all - please keep them in lockers - if we see them, they will be put in the office for the day.

Grades 9/10 -  phones can be kept in backpacks and pulled out for activities at the request of the teachers. Phones are not to be out during transitions, TAP, assemblies or co-curriculars - unless specifically requested. Phones are allowed out at lunch.

Grade 11/12 - phone usage is at the discretion of the teachers. They are fine at lunch but not during TAP or assemblies.

Senior and Middle School

The HNMCS Student Portfolio was launched in 2022-2023. This is a dedicated student-generated Google Site where students can share their academic and student life achievements that they have accomplished. The portfolio aims to showcase a student’s growth during their time at HNMCS as a supplement to academic reporting. In addition to showcasing their achievements, students have the opportunity to share and reflect their interests, skills, and passions over the years. This year, students will continue to work on their portfolios and parents will be updated on additions periodically throughout the year. Stay tuned, access is coming

Senior School Peer Tutoring Programme

HNMCS is excited to continue the Senior School Peer Tutoring Program started last year. Under the guidance of subject teachers and the Student Services Department at HNMCS, this student-initiated program pairs tutors and tutees in a variety of subjects so that students may work in one-to-one sessions that focus on specific challenges. The Peer Tutoring Program at HNMCS fosters a supportive and inclusive community where students collaborate on problem-solving and the sharing of knowledge.

We invite students to take advantage of the Peer Tutoring Program by completing this form to either be a tutor or tutee.
