October is Anti-Bullying month so to celebrate, our Laker Leaders have put together a week full of dress up days, activities, and thoughtful conversations about being an upstander and spreading kindness everyone you go! Our crew made posters (left) to hang up around the middle school to serve as a reminder to the students and staff that it is cool to be kind!
Monday - Dress up like an elder to show the WISDOM to stand up to bullying
Tuesday - Dress the same as a friend to STAND UNITED against bullies
Wednesday - Dress wacky and DARE to be DIFFERENT
Thursday - Overdress to bring your BEST SELF to school
Friday - Dress like you're on vacation as a reminder to TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF
Every year on November 13th, people all around the globe celebrate World Kindness Day! The Laker Leaders came together to create a special advisory lesson in honor of World Kindness Day including some information about how the day became an international holiday, a heart-warming snowball fight, and an art project encouraging students to show their gratitude for those around them.
As part of our World Kindness Day Advisory Lesson, every student was given a piece of construction paper to trace their hand, write something they are thankful for and cut it out. Our Laker Leaders had the idea to create a huge turkey to stand proudly in the middle school commons to express each student’s gratitude for the good fortunes in their lives. Later in the week a few Laker Leaders volunteered to help hang the handprint “feathers” on the turkey.
From December 4th to December 18th, our study hall classrooms were busy getting their creative juices flowing and decorating their class doors for the annual Deck the Doors contest! The doors were voted on by the Middle school, High school and District office staff members and the winner received a delicious DQ Ice Cream Cake during their study hall!
Congratulations to Mr. Maher’s 7th grade study hall class for creating the winning door, “Dabbing through the Snow”!
Thank you to everyone who helped make our HLWW Middle School Hygiene Drive a success! We were able to pack 10 boxes full of toilet paper, dental products, toiletry items, menstrual products, cleaning supplies and more and drop them off at the WCCA Thrift shop/Food Shelf in Waverly!
Shout out to Ms. Houseman's 6th grade Advisory Class for being our school's top donators!
