Hey Lakers!
I am Ms. Parenteau and I am the Middle School Counselor for Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted. I grew up in Hawley, a small town in Northern Minnesota, before moving down to Saint Peter, MN where I attended college at Gustavus Adolphus College for Psychological Science with a minor in Peace, Conflict, and Justice Studies. After graduating from Gustavus in 2020, I pursued my master's degree in School Counseling at Minnesota State University-Mankato.
My mission as a school counselor is to create an inclusive learning community in which students are given the tools to better advocate for themselves and others. My counseling approach includes a mix of person centered, solution focused, and data driven interventions executed in creative and easily applicable ways to keep students engaged and having fun! Please feel free to give me a call, send me an email, or schedule an appointment to chat more about any questions, comments, or concerns you may have regarding your student's social, emotional, or academic development at school.
As a Licensed K-12 Professional School Counselor, I preform my role in alignment with the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) Professional and Ethical Standards. School counselors hold a unique role in schools to serve as advocates for students and collaborators with school staff to create a positive and effective learning environment meeting the unique needs of every student.
Some of the essential duties of a school counselor include:
