John Gorczyca

John loved participating in sports and outside activities at Hamilton Township. He earned 10 varsity letters and participated in football, basketball and track. He was elected as captain of the football and basketball teams during his senior year. John was voted as an All-league halfback during his sophomore and junior years, while leading our Hamilton Rangers in rushing yards.

During his senior year, he received the sportsmanship award and an outstanding football award for his performance. In track, John ran the sprints, relays, and was a broad jumper. He earned the most first place awards during his senior year, and was the high point man at many track meets.

John served as class president through his freshman, sophomore and senior years at HTHS. He was also the student council president and FTA president. His high school highlights included induction into the National Honor Society and nomination to Buckeye Boys State.

John graduated from Ohio State in 1971 with a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration, and received his master of arts from Central Michigan University. While at Ohio State, he played soccer, was a member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity, and was a distinguished graduate of Air Force ROTC.  

John eventually entered Air Force pilot training and finished as a distinguished graduate. After flying in Vietnam, John considers the highlights of his Air Force career to be a part of the Air Force One program at Anderson Air Force Base, Maryland. He provided worldwide VIP transportation support for the President and other government officials.

John retired from the United States Air Force in 1991 and subsequently became a pilot for United Airlines. He has flown a variety of aircraft and became a Captain on the Boeing 737, 757 and 767.

John considers his high school years to be some of the best of his life. He feels this induction is one of his life’s highest honors.
