Introduction to Media Making
October 18 & 19, 2021

UPS Media Making with Students

Upper Primary teachers explored different approaches to media making in the classroom. After learning about some of the types of media, equipment available and practical tips to implement in learning, they brainstormed both Simple Starts and Aspirational Ideas to integrate Media Making into their instructional practice to empower students' voice and choice while developing their creativity, collaboration and resilience. Some ideas included incorporating NY Times photo of the week in morning meeting discussions, improving the quality of current class birthday videos, leveraging Media Making in Math lessons, launching a class podcast, and create multi media projects with students reading their writing and adding images to the background using a greenscreen. Reach out to Amy if you'd like to learn more about Media Making, would like support in rolling out your ideas, and or would like to use the equipment or Media Lab space with your students!

UP Learning Lab Teacher Training: Google VR Expeditions

Explore our Slides to review or learn more!

We had around 20 UP teachers join in the VR sessions on October 22. Some key take aways from the teachers:

  • It was helpful to have a hands on experience with the VR goggles - I had not interacted with any VR elements and this served as a great overview introduction.

  • Amazing way to engage students! I can’t wait to try it.

  • Broadening the ways I can help my students make connections and build understanding

  • I feel inspired to continue learning about new ways technology is being used to excite and engage children.

Way to go Cameron Holt for getting started with his class the very next day! Contact Amy, Wendy or Dustin if your'e interested in learning more or using them with your students.
