Our Exciting Adventure Begins in Germany!
On June 22nd, 2024, a group of intrepid Grade 5-8 students from A-school embarked on an extraordinary educational journey to Germany. The purpose of this excursion was twofold - to immerse themselves in the rich language, culture, and history of this fascinating country, as well as to explore its stunning medieval architecture and Christian heritage.
After gathering at the Hong Kong International Airport, the students embarked on a long but exhilarating flight. The anticipation was palpable as they prepared to step foot on German soil for the first time. Upon arrival, they were greeted by the welcoming airport staff, and our students greeted them in German.
The adventure began at the Hong Kong airport, where the students gathered full of excitement for the journey that lay ahead. The long flight did not dampen their spirits, and upon arrival, the group boarded a bus that carried them to the city of Stuttgart.
Once in Stuttgart, the students had the opportunity to savor authentic German cuisine at the traditional Sophie's Brauhaus restaurant. They delighted in trying new dishes and flavors that they had only seen in photos and videos prior to the trip.
After a satisfying lunch, the group headed to the impressive Mercedes Benz Museum. There, they marveled at the sleek and innovative car designs, gaining insights into Germany's renowned automotive engineering prowess.
The day's adventures continued with a visit to the breathtaking Ludwigsburg Castle. This grand baroque-style palace provided the students with a glimpse into Germany's regal past, sparking their curiosity about the country's rich history and cultural heritage.
To cap off this eventful first day, the group settled in at the Best Western Plus Delta Park Hotel in Mannheim, where they enjoyed a delicious dinner together. Day 2
Our study abroad trip to Heidelberg, Germany is off to a fantastic start! After an early breakfast at the hotel, our group of students dove right into the local culture by attending German language lessons at the renowned Goethe Institute Mannheim.
The morning session at the Goethe Institute was an invaluable opportunity for our students to start honing their German speaking and comprehension skills. Even for those with limited prior experience, the instructors created an engaging and supportive learning environment that had everyone participating enthusiastically.
In the afternoon, we embarked on a tour of some of Heidelberg's most iconic landmarks. First, we explored the impressive Heidelberg Castle, taking in its stunning architecture and breathtaking views over the Neckar River. We then visited the Courtyard Great Tun, home to one of the largest wine barrels in the world. Finally, we stepped back in time at the German Apothecary Museum, discovering the fascinating history of pharmaceutical practices in Germany.
To cap off the day, we paid a visit to the Heidelberg Museum and the Church of the Holy Spirit, giving us a well-rounded introduction to the city's rich cultural heritage. In the evening, we had a wonderful and delicious meal at Hotel Ritter.
After dinner, we finished off the day with a visit to the local supermarket, where the students had a chance to pay by themselves and talk with the cashier in German. We're all buzzing with excitement to continue our adventures tomorrow!
Day 3
On the third day of our German language immersion excursion, our group of students headed to the historic city of Mannheim. Despite the sweltering heat, the students showed remarkable resilience as we explored the city's Baroque treasures.
After the German Language Course, we dined at a local restaurant called Wirtshaus Zum Neckartal, enjoying traditional German cuisine.
Our first stop was the magnificent Barockschloss Mannheim, one of the largest Baroque palaces in Europe. As we approached the palace, we were struck by its impressive size and ornate architecture. We spent over an hour exploring the palace's lavish interiors, with its high ceilings and opulent chandeliers.
After touring the palace, we walked across the street to the Mannheim Palace Church, an equally impressive Baroque structure. As we stepped inside, we were awed by the ornate frescoes, gilded altars, and beautifully carved pulpit. Our guide provided fascinating historical details about the church's architecture and religious significance.
Later in the evening, we had dinner at the Eichbaum Brauhaus, a renowned brewery and restaurant in Mannheim. The hearty, flavorful meal was the perfect way to end our day of exploration.

Day 4
After an immersive German language course in Mannheim, our student group was eager to explore more of Germany beyond the classroom. We started the day with a short coach ride to the stately Kaiser Palast, where we enjoyed a delicious lunch featuring some familiar Chinese cuisine. The students were thrilled to finally have the chance to indulge in flavors from home.
Bellies full, we hopped back on the coach and headed to the vibrant city of Frankfurt. Our first stop was the iconic Euro sign, a popular photo op and symbol of the European Union. We then strolled along the old bridge over the Main River, admiring the stunning medieval architecture.
Next, we visited the grand Kaisersaal, the ceremonial hall of the Holy Roman Emperors. The ornate baroque details left us awestruck. We could almost imagine the pomp and circumstance that once filled these halls.
After touring the Kaisersaal, we spent the afternoon exploring the Frankfurter Römer, the famous city hall and market square. The students browsed the local shops, indulging in ice cream and milkshakes to cool off from the nearly 35°C heat. Despite the warm temperatures, they were all in excellent spirits, having gained a deeper appreciation for German culture.
To cap off our busy day, we returned to the hotel for a delightful group dinner. As we reflected on our adventures, it was clear the students had gained a deeper appreciation for German culture. Day 5
