Home and Hospital Instruction

The Home and Hospital program is designed to provide instructional continuity to students who are temporarily unable to attend their regular school of enrollment due to: physical illness/injury, pregnancy, or acute health impairment. A temporary disability does not include a disability for which a student is identified as an individual with exceptional needs pursuant to California Education Code (EC) Section 56026.

Home and Hospital is a short-term instructional service mandated by state law (California Education Code Section 48206.3) with specific guidelines for program implementation and delivery. These educational services enable students to continue their academic work and to remain current with their peers as they prepare for their return to school. Students are expected to return to their regular day class or an alternative education program at their former level of performance once the temporary disability is no longer in effect.

Please note that Chronic conditions may not qualify. Home Hospital Instruction is not authorized by the physician, but by Hanford Joint Union High School District. The physician’s role is to provide pertinent medication information and a note requesting Home Hospital Instruction to HJUHSD staff so a valid placement may be considered.

If you feel your student may qualify and benefit from Home and Hospital Instruction, please contact your school site secretary to get started on the process:
