REED Restart

Restart is a REED program that builds confidence in students who can read in L1 - but have little  vocabulary.  They can mostly decode the words but just don't know what they mean. In this 80-100 hour program, students will learn that they actually do have a base knowledge in English, though they may not think they do! 

This program builds from what students do know and what they can do, building with low-tech, kinesthetic learning strategies, and is appropriate for all populations.  They become familiar with cognates, sentence starters, basic adjectives and word order. There is an exit ticket at the end of each session, that includes elements of SEL. 

By the end of this 100-hour program, they will have learnt over 750 words, completed over 5 reading comprehension texts, written hundreds of sentences, done a book report, put on a play, and created a full year writing portfolio! 

The RESTART  site contains links to flashcards, notebooks, a reader, and teacher's guides with instructions.  Note that materials must be printed at a printing shop, in color, before you begin.  Each complete set costs approximately 250 shekels, depending on your printer.
