For the protection of the students in the film,
please make sure that you do NOT share this link with students.
You will only be able to watch the movie here in this window. You can project it onto the board.
This link will be open for a week from Tuesday October 1st to Tuesday October 8th.
Introduction:
The REED community has 6442 students who have been evacuated from their homes in both the South and North of Israel. This is the most of any other Mahoz in the country. Our yishuvim are communities who have been broken up and scattered around the country. It is really hard for our students and their families. We want to hear from them - they are not invisible.
In order to expose our students who were not evacuated to these issues, REED created a film of some of our brave students who have been facing trials and tribulations for a year now.
Materials:
1) map of Yishuvim
2) while watching response page
3) New Year's Cards
4) 12-minute video (the last 3 minutes are just a song as background music while they are working)
Lesson Plan:
Recap the introduction above. Ask if any of the students knows someone who was evacuated from their home, why and where are they now?
Hand out the "while watching response page" and explain to the students that they will be watching a movie "Reed - I Have a Question" (סליחה, יש לי שאלה)
While watching, please intervene if they have questions, and you can stop the film after each set of answers to the four questions:
Where are you and your family from?
Where have you moved during the year?
Name one challenge that you faced this year
Tell about what you learned about yourself, your family or your community this year
Judie says a few words at the end about REED and our students.
Then there is the song גיבורי על which plays in its entirety while students:
Write a personal card to one of the evacuated students with good wishes for this New Year
Write a card in pairs to one of the communities/Kibbutzim that was evacuated
Make sure there is no bullying, laughing or teasing of any of the students. Remind your students that these teens are brave and enduring a terrible time. Do NOT allow this to become a negative experience.
Here is a map where all of the yishuvim that will be mentioned in the movie are. You can make it larger.
