Special Topic Project
Special Topic
Overview
Over the course of each term, band students will be asked to investigate a musical topic that interests them. This research and study, either completed individually or in a small group (up to 4 people), will result in a written paper, multimedia project, or presentation for the class. Students will be given significant freedom with regards to the subject matter of their investigation, assuming the product demonstrates increased musical growth and understanding.
Timeline/Content
Prior to submitting final projects, students must complete the “Special Topic” Google Form on the band’s Classroom page outlining their choice of subject, intended project, and potential group members for Mr. Cincotta’s approval. The deadline for submission of this information will be announced each term and will be at least three weeks prior to the due date for the project itself.
Though projects may cover a wide variety of musical topics, they should fit into one of the following categories:
Preparing a solo piece and recording it/performing for the class
Rehearsing with a small ensemble and recording a performance
Studying a genre of music, a specific artist or group
Researching the history of your instrument or a famous instrumentalist
Composing/songwriting using notation/recording software
Another category with Mr. Cincotta’s approval
