Ideas to help your child learn at home

Maintain some sense of normality and establish a routine

This does not mean your day should be structured like a school day. You are in charge of the activities you ask your child to do in a given day. Staff will do their best to provide you with relevant and fun activities, but it is up to you to prioritise the order in which you do them, and the time you put aside for this work to be done.

Keep active

Give the children time to play and move as much as is possible in your home or garden if you have one. We will send you fitness challenges and ideas for games and exercises to keep as fit as possible.

Read stories

Give your child plenty of time to read books with you and listen to you read stories to them. Class teachers will post videos of them reading stories to the class, play these again and talk to your child about the story.

Draw pictures

Using stories as a starting point, encourage our child to draw, create and user their imagination. Take a photo of these pictures and post them on Tapestry so they can be shared with their friends.

Cook and bake

Involve your child in preparing food, weighing ingredients and following a recipe. Take a photo of what you have made together and share it with us.

Explore technology

Make sure you supervise your child when they access any form of online content. Explore some of the tools open to them in Gsuite:

  • create document in Google Docs and write a joke or poem

  • create a slideshow in Google Slides to start a project on an area of interest you can work on together, such as researching an animal or a part of the world.

  • make music using Soundtrap or start to record a podcast or radio interview style conversation

Share

All of these ideas can be shared with your class teacher who will support and help your child take their ideas to the next level, providing support and praise.
